I think there should be a smoother way to re-order tasks. I'm a bit long-winded here, but I do think finding a way to address this would be a major improvement for taskcoach...

Here's how i see the problem: Task dependency (not yet implemented) partially address this, but falls short if you plan to tackle subtasks from more than one parent task in the short term. Priority is helpful, but falls short in that you have to manually go in and increase or decrease tasks one at a time to get them into an order of what you would like to do next. Due date falls short in that some tasks might not have due dates, or may actually be very low priorty.

I see a few possible ways to implement this:
1> Allow sorting by more than one criteria. I think this would be a partial solution, but a definite improvement.

2> Allow tasks to be re-ordered by drag and drop. Perhaps each task would have an order index number which would be controlled by taskcoach by default, but if the user drags the task to a new position, it would "stick" in that position and a checkbox would be enabled for "user position". Meanwhile the rest of the tasks would continue to flow around this position.

3> A more complex system allowing the user to sort by an algorithm. This is what I would prefer, although I can see it might be difficult to implement. For instance, taskcoach could account for how much time i've budgeted and how long until the due date, calculate a daily time budget. Then I could sort my tasks by 45% daily time budget, 30% priority, and 25% off of an urgency field. I like this idea, but I'm guessing it's too complicated...

4> Allow another view that only shows tasks that I explicitly choose to do next. These would be assigned an order number for this view. There could be a keyboard shortcut to enable the task in this view, perhaps even one to go to the top of the list and another to the bottom. Re-ordering the list should be easy. Since the list would be small it seems reasonable to have it automatically numbered (as opposed to the maximize/minimize option for priority which ends up creating negative numbers or leaving gaps in the numbering). It is said that we are able to focus on no more than 7 items at once so i think this could be limited to a small number, like 10 or 20 items. This idea seems best to me, because it sounds very easy to implement, wouldn't slow taskcoach down, and easily allow me to plan my day.

I'll donate $10-30 if any of this gets implemented. thanks for all your hard work

I would like to see more customizable reports in Task Coach, specifically in relation to reporting periods and grouping (by category.)

For example:
- Daily summary of effort between Date 1 and Date 2 for all tasks tagged with a selected category.

Currently effort can be filtered by details, day, week or month. Sometimes the month or week that I want to report on does not align with a regular work week. Being able to set the start and end date would be a major improvement.

A tally of the total time spent would also be a nice addition to this report.

I found a similar suggestion was made but closed as being too vague. Sorry I too am vague -- but I do not know how the feature I would like should be implemented as I don't know what is available. I can only describe problem and hope it makes sense to solve it?

I use the 'same' tasklist file on on three Windows PCs - two desktop machines and one netbook. I tried using one copy on USB stick but I do not have ready access to USB ports on one of the machines, making that method difficult.

My problem is keeping all three copies updated with each other? I am the only one that uses them so only one file is updated at any given time.

Many thoughts come to mind on how this *might* be solved, but I do not know what all the possibilities are or what would really be best way? My thoughts:

1. Task Coach work with the file over FTP link, perhaps make local copy but always saving/storing to FTP server as central copy

2. Task Coach work with the file over HTTP (or HTTPS) link - same idea, make local copy but save/store always on website

3. Task Coach works locally but has ability to email/FTP/store on web a copy of the file upon user local command

4. Task Coach have ability to two-way sync to another Task Coach file, user manually syncs files to each other (needs two-way and sync at individual task level and other items like categories)

All have pro and con, none are perfect, there are probably many more ideas besides these on how to solve?

Preferred for me is a central storage method of some type (web, FTP, UNC network path). TC starts with copy from central and saves to central copy, even if must work with local files in the interim. Central storage is always updated and is always final version of fiels. Obvious issues are, what to do if TC cannot connect, does TC allow offline use and sync later, etc.

Taskcoach to copy to local from some central storage (web, FTP, UNC path), and when closed or commanded, is to update central files. Very similar to first but user controls when/if central is updated instead of always trying to keep central up-to-date.

Two-way sync at Task and other reasonably low granularity of objects, with another set of TC files. This catch most sync situations except when PC clock is wrong (wrong sync object is seen as newer), and when same sync object was updated in both places (task, category, note, etc.), the changes of the oldest one will be lost. Depending on how low the granularity of the sync objects, the risk of data loss can be reduced to manageable levels.

All of the above considers only a single user (me) wanting to keep many copies of TC identical with each other. I see there is a request to consider multi-user updating of central copy. If that request is approved and receives a solution, that solution could very well resolve this request at the time.

I suggest adding the option for a new "Edit" viewer. This would be an optional viewer that can placed to be always viewed, similar to other viewers.

This "Edit" viewer would simply be an edit view of whatever object currently has focus (if the object has an edit option).

For example, if a category has focus then the edit options of that category are displayed and edits can be done and saved automatically. If focus is then switched to a task, then the "Edit" viewer will display the editing options for that task. This allows for increased editing efficiency and speed.

The viewer is of course optional so that if you don't want to have instant edit & save access to all your objects you don't have to.

I like task coach because I can use it for tasking and most importantly time tracking of work that I am currently doing. While Coach is effective at helping track my work and time spent, it gets a bit clunky at times having to select what I'm doing to then open up the edit pop-up, then modify, then save.

I think that a viewer like this would be beneficial to many people especially those of us who use Coach in a way that requires frequent editing of tasks, categories, and etc.
