Option to choose which categories to sync
Please add the ability to select which categories to sync or not between desktop and iPhone. I have some categories that are by definition obsolete but I want to keep the tasks in Task Coach on my desktop for future reference.
I'm thinking about a section in iPhone preferences on the desktop version of Task Coach that shows a list of the categories along with checkboxes (much like the Category list in the main Task Coach window) and you could uncheck the box for a category and then the next time you sync the category and all it's tasks would be excluded from the sync and would only appear on the desktop.
I thought about unchecking "Upload completed tasks to device", but there are times when I want to view complete tasks on my iPod Touch from other categories.
For example, I have a category "School" with a subcategory for each course I take in my grad program. Once the class is over all of the tasks are completed (yay!) and I almost certainly won't use the category in the future, but I don't want to delete the category and it's tasks entirely because I do occasionally refer back to a previous class to see details of a project or homework assignment.
The main impetus for this idea is to reduce the number of categories to choose from when starting Task Coach on my iPod Touch. I got my iPod Touch two semesters ago and now the list of "defunct" categories is getting rather long. A side benefit would be that (hopefully) syncing wouldn't take as long.
Another, possibly simpler idea that might work would be to add an option to Task Coach for iPhone/iPod Touch that would simply hide categories with zero uncompleted tasks. If you were to add or create a task in one of these hidden categories (by going to All, creating a new one and then choosing the hidden category in the task details) when you go back to the category list that category should display again.

This is a perfectly fine request, but there's a possible workaround for now that might apply, depending on your situation:
If you select all the tasks in a category that you are no longer using, you can export them to a separate .tsk file for archiving. Just go to File>Save Selection… on the desktop version. Then you can delete the tasks and categories from your main file.
(incidentally there's a request that would make it easier to consolidate all these exports into a single archive .tsk file: http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/457886-ability-to-move-selected-tasks-to-a-different-tsk
)Anyway, if this applies to your situation, then this will work for making your iOS categories list smaller.
But I can imagine situations where this isn't what is wanted, so the request here still makes sense.
