Add a field/column for creation date (and also modification date)
This would enable us to better trace the status of subjects and tasks by entering notes which would be sorted and marked for creation date.
This is also useful when creating an inbox for the GTD methodology, and it would be nice to sort newly entered tasks by the creation date.
38 votesWork on this currently in progress!
Creation date is now included as of v. 1.3.21, and v. 1,3.23 will have modification date (already testable in the latest bugfix version at http://www.fraca7.net/TaskCoach-packages/latest_bugfixes.py )Cheers,

Include alarm option in recurring tasks
For instance, I'm eating lunch. It's under my non-work time. I want to know when my hour is up.
1 voteSee comments below, in order of time from bottom to top. But overall summary is: you can do what you are asking.

Mark task completed with a line through it
I would like to be able to mark completed task with a line through it just like I would cross it off a paper list. Right now it just changes color. You might want to make this optional but I'm betting if it was available most people would use it.
206 votesRelease 1.2.19 allows you to change the foreground color, background color, icon and font of tasks for each of the states: active, inactive, completed, over due and due soon.

sys startup. minimized on close. same or better reminder and recurrence func as essential PIM
Task coach should start at system startup. I think this is not working in winxp professional. It should stay minimized on closing task coach window. It should have same or better evert/tass reminder and recurrence functionality as essential PIM. check out Essential PIM software.
1 voteFirst, please don´t combine different feature requests. Second, two of your requests already work. When installing, you get the option of automatically starting Task Coach when you log in to Windows. Also, you can control how Task Coach starts (minimized, not minimized, or how it was when you last closed it) by means of the preferences.
Thanks, Frank

provide a means to replicate an effort.
Your tip says this is alpha. I disagree. I think it is well developed and excellent. So be proud!!
I *would like to be able to replicate an effort. For example, I do pretty much everything at work each day as far as task, times, and so forth. So it would be fun to copy and effort and paste it four times for the week, then hit each to edit the description.
No biggie, as I use XML in a text editor or in [XML Copy Editor] to do just this, but for folks not that acquainted with XML it…
0 votesThis is already possible, using copy and paste in the effort viewer.

Calendar view
Feature Requests item #1959184 Submitted By: Rahul Basu (rahul_basu)
It would be great to be able to view all tasks and deadlines on a single calendar. What I mean is that besides having a list of tasks, you should be able to see them on a calendar with the start dates and due dates listed.
Also, this isn't quite on topic, but, it would be good to be able to create one-time events viewable on this calendar (example: meeting with customer, math test, etc.)Feature Requests item #1452071 By: Alex Greif (greifa)
create a new tab (beside taskList taskTree, Effort)…276 votesRelease 1.0.0 adds a calendar viewer.

Task status and start dates based on Task Dependency and set task duration
A task's start date, end date, and status should be able to change based on its relationship to other task(s). For example, if a task will require 3 days to complete but cannot begin until a preceding task is complete, then the 3 day task should stay in status "inactive" until the preceding task completes, and then Task Coach automatically changes the dependent task's status to "active" and sets the start and end date accordingly based on the user-provided duration for the task (i.e. 3 days).
Task Coach should be able to provide estimated start and end dates for all…
237 votesRelease 1.2.0 supports task dependencies.

Prevent unreadable combinations of foreground and background colors
It is not possible to use dark colors for background because the text color remains black.
It would be great if there would be a color option for the text or the color gets adjusted automatically to get white characters on an dark-blue background.
9 votesRelease 0.78.0 adds configurable foreground colors (background colors were already configurable) so that users can prevent unreadable combinations of foreground and background colors.

Task Recurrence based on the Date of Completion
I'm missing a feature which is part of Outlook's Task Scheduler.
When marking a task with a given period for recurrency as done i.e. completed the task should be rescheduled based on the date of completion.

Warning if no task is tracked during work hours
TaskCoach should show a popup if there are no tasks running during the 'working period'. If the PC is not idle and the it is during the working hours, a tip should be shown next to the icon in the taskbar or a popup window should be shown.
2 votesThere is an idle time popup window now in TC.

Speed up the tool so it doesn't take that long to show the overview if you have some 100 tasks
If you have a high number of tasks in the tool and don't mark special categories or other filters it takes a long time till the overview is loaded.
This should be much faster!25 votesLatest bug fix release should be a bit faster.

Limit amount of backup copies
In Preferences > Files, have a "Keep N Backup Copies" counter
17 votesRelease 0.78.0 of Task Coach can limit the number of backups of the task file. The number of backups retained increases logarithmically with the age of the oldest backup of the task file.

Make it possible to pause the task timer
It would be nice if you could pause the timer when you go on a coffee break, rather then stopping and starting it.
26 votesPausing is available in release 1.2.10.

The merge functionality
It would be very interresting that this functionality allows to merge the efforts of the different tasks from one .tsk file to the current .tsk file.
Thank you very much for the very goog tool you build !1 voteThis functionality already is there. When you merge a taskfile, the effort is merged too.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you mean. In that case, open a new feature request and try to explain what you want with more words.
Thanks, Frank

Task start & end times
Please allow specifying the start time as well as the start date for a
task. Tasks would remain color coded as future tasks until both the start
date and time have been reached. That allows graceful handling of things like tasks that need to be done
daily at 2:00, or every Wednesday at 3:00.
Adding an end time allows for handling of tasks due at a certain time not just "today".This is an expansion of a feature request that was closed:

Don't destroy unsaved data when escape key is hit
When I am editing a task or a note and hit escape, the dialog disappears without prompting me, losing whatever data has been entered in it. This is bad form, as you can lose a lot of info if you hit that key accidentally. It should ask for a confirmation or save before exiting. Also, an "apply" button to save without closing might be good.
21 votesRelease 1.3.0 makes all changes effective immediately so hitting escape cannot cause loss of information.

Add list font size to the settings
I would like to change the font size on all listings.
