Add custom fields
I would like to have a few fields that the default system does not supply. I would be great if I could add my own custom fields.
It would be nice if these fields could have options to be checkboxes or dropdown menus to select from preset options as well as the option to be user-entered alphanumeric information.

After creating a new task, keep the focus on it in the list
When tasks are numerous, finding a newly created task can be difficult. The focus should be on the new task.

Create subtasks from the tray
When right-clicking on the icon in the tray, it is currently possible to create tasks (and notes & efforts). I often realize I have more subtasks when I am in the middle of a task, so it would be great to have the same Task-PopUp you have for the possibility to "Start tracking effort" and being able to create subtasks under an existing task/subtask.

Make templates directory configurable
It would be great to accept a link to the directory taskcoach-templates. I use Task Coach on different machines , with different os (linux, win), and want to have only one directory for the templates. Unfortunately, Task Coach on Windows doesn't accept a link for the Task Coach template directory.

Rearrange columns in viewers with drag and drop
Being able to re-arrange the displayed columns with a simple drag & drop would be a good feature. Then you could prioritize the columns that are most important to you.
462 votesRe-arranging the order of columns by drag and drop is one of the most requested features for Task Coach. As you may know, our small development team struggles with finding enough time to maintain Task Coach, support users (which we do for free) and develop new features.
We attempted a fundraiser to hire an outside developer to program the feature for us, but the fundraiser was not successful. It was just a test and there are many reasons it could have gone better. We are aware of and are exploring alternative fundraising options in general.
The reason this particular feature is expensive is that it needs change in the underlying wxWidgets framework that we use and needs an outside developer. But there is a lower-cost easy alternative to customizing column order and we will probably implement it soon: we could use the same interface we currently use for customizable toolbars.…

Do not show all parent tasks in the subject column in list view, just the bottom one
Feature Requests item #2817422
When you have chosen list view, the layout becomes rather cluttered if you have subtasks. I use Task Coach according to the GTD approach. I use the contexts Inbox, Next action, Waiting for, Projects, Someday/Maybe and Reference. Say that I have a project consisting of a task with sub-tasks. Some of the sub-tasks are defined as next action, some are in the category waiting for and so on and so forth. If i click the category "Next action" I only want to see the sub tasks that I have defined as "Next action". The projects (parent…13 votes -
Show totals in task square map
In the "task square map" I would like to see the total time for each "task folder" (those that have subtasks), so I can quickly have an idea of the total time I spent on a project. Moreover, it would be great if the name of the "folder" would always be visible.

Store data in SQL database
Add an option to connect to an SQL database and store all task data in it. Obviously, data also should be stored locally as a read-only backup in case the database server is down, and eventually to speed up things.

Assign categories to efforts
It would be helpful to assign one or more categories to efforts. Possible use: I'm working as a consultant and have set up the project plan in TC. But the billing for my working time is split into "onsite", "remote" and "travelling time". So I would assign a special category to the effort that I'm creating for tasks.
This feature would make TC even more flexible.85 votes -

Sync only tasks that are marked for syncing
When I define a task, I have it with plenty subtasks, some are really tasks some are not really tasks. I would like to have only some of those tasks synced by SyncML, for example giving them a tag (sync).

Do note that Task Coach has unlimited undo, and there’s a separate request for a trash that holds items before permanent removal:

Indicate selected task with bold text, arrow icon, or bounding rectangle, instead of color hilite
Because I color-code the background of tasks based on their categories, it's hard to tell at a glance which task is currently selected--especially since the "highlight" color depends upon the task's "background" color. There ought to be some way to see which task/category/whatever I have selected without relying on color alone.

Keep a "completed" version of recurring tasks in the tasks list
Currently, clicking a recurring task deletes the "today" version and creates a new task at the next occurrence. For my peace of mind, I'd rather be able to look at my tasks list and see that I have in fact completed the recurring task, and haven't just accidentally moved, deleted, or edited it.
17 votesAdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) respondedWe will almost certainly NOT make duplicate tasks for recurrence, although I know some people may like that idea. Instead, to address this concern, we will consider creating some sort of log of completions, as I mention in my comment below.

Include a checkbox in the task list to mark items completed with a single click
Right now (unless I'm missing something) I have to click to select a task, then move up and click the "completed" button in the toolbar.
