  1. When I want to add new tasks, I often do not need to give it a description. In these cases, the new task dialog that pops up is one step too much. I would like to have a quick way to add new tasks by just giving a subject/title of the task. Why not have some kind of text field where you just type the subject, press enter and have the new task listed (like entering statuses in Twitter). Any other info such as descriptions, efforts, attachments, etc. could still be added later using the existing detailed task dialog.

You don’t have to enter a description, you can simply type a subject in the task edit dialog and then hit enter to close the task edit dialog and have the new task appear in the task list. This creates a new task titled Foo:
Foo. How much quicker can you get?

  2. Would be great to be able to define our own filtering criterias with combination capability.

  4. I would suggest when a parent category is checked/selected for viewing, all underlying child/sub categories are also checked. Conversely, if the parent category is unchecked, its child categories are also unchecked.

  5. it would be great if you can filter a category by only selecting it instead of toggling/detoggling it. It's a waste of time! and very annoying. for the rest great app!

  6. Enable filtering in effort view, to allow separate reporting of effort by categories. So different categories can be used for different clients for example - currently, further manual processing is required to extract this information.

  9. It would be great to add the calendar or Dates in Notes. It is useful when we use task coach to create daily journals. Also, the arrange by date in the viewer would be great implementation together with this.

  10. I would to have the ability to show/hide all tasks that have no due date. This would make things neater when making/printing a task list for the week. The list would not include any tasks that were created as folders with sub-tasks for organization purposes and only show the sub-tasks that require attention as work projects.

  12. As in MS Project, group of selected tasks could be updated through single window (Multiple Task Information) for some attributes with the same data in one shot edit and leaving other attributes unchanged.
ex. Set the due date to group of selected tasks through one edit to the Due Date box only once.

  13. I would love for attachments added to a category to appear against any tasks assigned to the category. I don't see myself using category attachments otherwise.

Then don’t use category attachments. Other people might like them a lot as is. It’s easy enough to just go to the categories to get the attachments. I don’t think it is sensible to duplicate attachments to everything.

Maybe eventually if TC adds more non-linear linking features (a dream I have for someday/maybe), it will be easier to connect all these things, but it’s pretty functional as is.

  14. We have budget of time for a task and we have task duration. Dividing budget by duration yields how much effort per unit of time a task requires.

Summing up the effort per day of all the tasks within a day yields how much work has to put someone to do all the tasks.

If that effort goes beyond a certain amount (say, 8 hrs per day), Task Couch should let a user to level it automatically by postponing the tasks that to not have a fixed start date.

    This feature requires:
    1) tasks with floating start date - required.…

This is too complex and not easy enough to control, BUT most of what you want is possible already.

There is something like floating start date — there is planned start vs actual start. A task with an actual start is floating in some sense because it didn’t have a plan. A plan-only task that is past date is marked “late”
Thus, it is possible to sort and determine the difference between planned and actually started, planned but late, and unplanned but actually started.

And there is already task prerequisites.

The one thing you still need is a quick calculation of sum for many tasks’ “Budget Left”

You should vote for this request:
    http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/606269-section-in-status-bar-for-calculated-information-a

If you haven’t used Task Coach since posting this, consider trying the newest version. It might not be everything you want, but I think you can effectively get what you need…

  15. When "Mark task as complete, when all the subtasks are completed" is set to yes, the top task, shoulde'nt count in the overall %. So if you have a main task, and 3 subtasks, and two of the subtasks are marked as completed. The overall % would now be 50% instead of 3/4%.

  16. I would like to create more than one task at once.
I have a list of over 50 tasks to do, and would like to have the possibility to create them at once.
    Proposal:
The user just paste a List into a text field and every new row generates a new task.

Very important, too: edit tasks simultaneously. To give them the same time budget f.e.

  18. In the calendar viewer the weekly view shows days but in the monthly view it does not. It would be good to have 'S' 'M' 'T' 'W' etc below the date to work out where work days are.

Also you should be able to define the working week in the references (normally Monday-Friday) with weekends being grayed out or a different color in the calendar views.

  20. i'd like to edit tasks without double clicking on each

it should be possible to handle the "task editor panel" as a 'view' (such as 'notes', 'categorys' ...). Then its content updated according to selected task.
