Enable multi-user Task Management
Hi,
Currently, when 2 (or more) users are opening the same file, a change one
made is not seen by the other, until he re-opens the application.
A "push tier" is one possible solution to pass changes to the other users.
Best regards,
Kobi

Completely forgot :)

Is there a limit to the number of users that can edit the file at the same time? Any plans to add user as a property of each effort (so we know who did it)?
By the way, THANKS for the great work!

Given that the program is very much appreciated, make a request for what would be the cost to make the multi-user software and maybe sending an email to all users, we might as well get the amount with donations. Regards. Paolo
Visto che il programma è molto apprezzato, fate una richiesta di quanto potrebbe essere il costo per far diventare il software multi-user e magari, inviando una mail a tutti gli utilizzatori, potremmo pure raggiungere l'importo con donazioni. Saluti Paolo

In response to the question about money: It's complex. The development team is just very small and working in our spare time. Some funds won't make much difference directly. A good amount of funds that would allow hiring some part-time work would completely change the project, but that's a whole complex issue.
I am actually working myself on a system to better fund us and other Open Source projects, but for now, I think the best option if you want to encourage others to support our progress is: (A) recruit volunteers to help and (B) if you want to focus some money, you could place a bounty at http://freedomsponsors.org/ which is the best FLOSS bounty site. We aren't already signed up there. If you do place a bounty, do let us know. Bounties have tons of fundamental problems but if they work, then fine…

how much money do you guys need to finish this? A rough estimate for let's say the top 20 on the wishlist might be a good idea. Just give your users a number, I've been waiting for this feature and I am willing to give you guys some support, just let us now how far you are and what it is you need.

I think that is good idea. I'm project manager. This is realy good program for administration my project but I need multi-user function. When I can give some task for my employee I can use this program everytime.

@eldorel,
This has indeed been the main focus lately aside from fixing serious bugs that have come up. It is actually testable in the latest features download: http://www.fraca7.net/TaskCoach-packages/latest_features.py
Note: do NOT use that for regular use, it is very much a test version.
We still cannot set a date on it. Your purchases of iOS app primarily offset annoying costs that Apple builds into their system and some other basic expenses. Income is not enough to change development pace currently as there are still only two developers working only in their free time on this.
I am not a programmer myself but help with other things so the other guys can focus more on programming. Otherwise, I am developing a new funding/patronage system overall to help projects like Task Coach really get funded, dedicated development time. Until my project is functional, the little bits of support here and there are good motivation to continue but don't really change the amount of free time the few developers have for the project.

Can we get an update on this feature?
This is the #1 requested change, and it's been 2 years since it was marked as "started".
I purchased several copies of the IOS version in order to help fund the project, but I still can't use it for what I really need. (not to mention that it's been over 3 years now, and I don't even use IOS anymore...)

We are a small Auto Sales Shop. We take salvaged titled vehicles and rebuild them. We are implementing Task Coach as our project management tool for tracking and managing each vehicle as it progresses through it's rebuilding. It would be a big benefit to our tracking process if task coach were in fact multi-user. To that end we would consider helping by implementing at some point the multi-user version of task Coach. We currently adding two to three new vehicle projects ever week and we are completing one to two vehicle projects every week.

I don't have much feedback actually. And since I have to refactor everything to make it more generic it's not for the next release :(

Hi Jérôme! How's early results from Alpha testing? Any clear idea on an ETA for this? Will be a game-changer once this goes live. Good luck!

It's more alpha than beta actually. The internal stuff as well as the file format is bound to change dramatically. If you want to try it out, download the packages from
http://www.fraca7.net/TaskCoach-packages/latest_features.py
And backup regularly...

When will this be ready ? Is it some beta already with this working ?
It would be great to be able to have a task file shared over a network and then many user accesing tasks just using the application as a client with a path to the main file defined in settings!

Would it be possible to use Webservice with SQL-Server on Server side? Then it seems a good idea, to have 2 versions: One for standalone and one with network enabled.

I'm happy to see status "started"!
I'll gladly beta test when it's ready for that. -

DON'T DO IT: KEEP TaskCoach simple! There are already many good tools for "Project" management vs. personal task management. Please focus your limited development time on the simple ehancements to appearance, task organization, etc.

I'll beta-test it to exhaustion

I'm ready to try it the times as need it

An other solution is to re-open the file. But it would be great if it was automatic!

This feature is a must for me. Syncing is a hassle and can be problematic when used as a substitute for true multi-user capabilities.
