Calendar view
Feature Requests item #1959184 Submitted By: Rahul Basu (rahul_basu)
It would be great to be able to view all tasks and deadlines on a single calendar. What I mean is that besides having a list of tasks, you should be able to see them on a calendar with the start dates and due dates listed.
Also, this isn't quite on topic, but, it would be good to be able to create one-time events viewable on this calendar (example: meeting with customer, math test, etc.)
Feature Requests item #1452071 By: Alex Greif (greifa)
create a new tab (beside taskList taskTree, Effort) with the name Calendar, that shows the current month with the days as rectangles. If a day has a task, then it should be shown as a line or block or some color.
My Problem is to quickly see whether some date/time in the future is free for a new schedule.
Release 1.0.0 adds a calendar viewer.

@plumabokkie: There are some ideas in there. Could you create separate feature requests for those ? It would be easier for us to keep track of them.

Hi, Finally calendar view.... Yes!!! In my mind it 95% perfect.
So what is the remaining 5%... The filter: Start & Due Date / Start date / Due Date.... and how they are graphically displayed.1- Start & Due Date: should display the task, like a "project management" gantt chart view. Thus graphically stretching the task from the start date across all the other days to the Due or completion date ... as it seems to do. (great!)
2- Start date or the Due Date filters should only show the task in its start date or due date days! Not stretch it across all the other days.
Why? = Daily planning.
Question: How many tasks am I doing on that day?... is more important than, How many task pass though that day... for this I change the filter back to nº1 above... ?yes? Thus the display could visually be less cluttered & faster3- Also when the mouse pointer hovers over the task a little help note pops up... could it also say to which parent / sub parent tasks it belongs? (simple task like "draw plans" could apply to any number of tasks or projects in you task tree, particularly if the task is from the task template.)
4- if you could ? ... in Start date or Due Date filtered view, the task could show a volumetric display of budgeted hours you had planned for that task. (I realise that in tasks that take more than on day they would completely occupy the day .... but that is exactly what you need to know.
5- Or Parent tasks could graphically span days as lines and the tasks could be placed in their days?
Anyway... Thank you very much for this feature!!

What do you call the "bar chart" ? And I don't understand the freezing part.
-
Hua Li commented
with the calendar view, can u colour the bar chart with colour , not like background is white , and teh bar chart is white as well. futhermore can u freeze the month and bay (the first row) so when i got lots task , and grag the view, the the first row remains there.

Hi calendar would be great, (don't find the tile or timeline useful at all- consider this alternative....) ... don't you find that you are planning to do things on a particular days and you estimate how long each task will take.... before you know, you could have more tasks on a particular day than hours ... set in taskcoach's preferences ... So could the graphics work on the principal of an "empty glass... not literally)" , (the glass representing a day with the amount of hours you have allocated in preferences)... as you allocate tasks to a day the glass fills showing how many hours (or % day) are taken up or left (like a bar graph)... in a week / month view ...you can visually see which days have less tasks or more than possible... allocated ... thus visually seeing the volume taken up for each day... clicking on the task and re-allocating it to an empty day :-) being too difficult?? hope not!

Dear all:
Once the chance to add time to start and end times is implemented, it would be great to have a sunbird-like calendar display (please, take a look to how to Sunbird displays multi-day task, especially with the difference between 'week" and 'multiweek' views).
Regards.

@Frank Niessink: thank you for layout "Timeline".
It is 2 ways to dysplay a whole task (with its start and end):
1. Timeline;
2. Calendar (it named also "Scheduler" in some products).
IMHO timeline is more comfortable. And it is useful, in this I agree with Bill.But. Layout "Timeline" is not comfortable in TaskCoach Release 0.76.0.
Can I here write about other product? If Yes and this post will not delete, than try to see iChronos. Its timeline is comfortable. And take attention on context menu commands: "Find on ...", "Find in ...". This makes a navigation more easily. And more. IMHO, it is necessary to add a layout "Today tasks". Not filter {TaskCoach \ View \ Filter \ Show only ... \ Tuday}, but layout. It may be useful for quickly work whith information in *.tsk file.

Would be nice if the user can select wich tasks apear on the Calendar.
For exemple:
- Only the tasks with start and end Date (and Tiem)
- Only the tasks without the Due Date.
- All TasksThe tasks with only start date must have a diferente graphic form from the tasks with start and due dates. In the last case the must be present wih a graphic tahta represent the duration of the task

I think that a calendar could be importante. At lest showing the due data of all task (with due data)

@s.devrieze Good suggestions, thanks.

@Frank: show both separately and add an option to (un)hide. For instance:
1) Both start date and due dates are showed:
Monday
Task 1 (start)Tuesday
Task 2 (start)Wednesday
Task 1 (end)
Task 3 (start)Thursday
Friday
Task 2 (end)
Task 3 (end)2) Only show start dates:
Monday
Task 1 (start)Tuesday
Task 2 (start)Wednesday
Task 3 (start)Thursday
Friday
3) Only show due dates:
MondayTuesday
Wednesday
Task 1 (end)Thursday
Friday
Task 2 (end)
Task 3 (end)Advantages:
* overview of tasks you need to start soon
* overview of tasks you need to finish soonNote: please also add an option to hide/unhide subtasks! Maybe limit to a specified sublevel.

I think a timeline is best for showing task durations and deadlines. Maybe the timeline needs to have months/days shown at the top so you can see what days have tasks running through them and schedule tasks for days that are free.
I find a calendar layout is best suited for seeing appointments (sort of stand alone tasks i guess typically less than 1 day duration) - would voters find this generally useful?? It might be useful as a daily planner type tool.
I'm voting for months/days on the timeline and a calendar/daily planner type of tool. I think I would find these useful. -
Can you draw a picture? I still think it would be a big mess. Suppose you have 25 active tasks, that would be 25 lines, starting and stopping on different dates.

PhoneixS commented
What about a color line crossing the days of the task?

How would a task with start date September 1 and due date September 10 be displayed?
