Add report builder or parameter-based effort reports
I would like to see more customizable reports in Task Coach, specifically in relation to reporting periods and grouping (by category.)
For example:
- Daily summary of effort between Date 1 and Date 2 for all tasks tagged with a selected category.
Currently effort can be filtered by details, day, week or month. Sometimes the month or week that I want to report on does not align with a regular work week. Being able to set the start and end date would be a major improvement.
A tally of the total time spent would also be a nice addition to this report.

An arbitrary date range &/or just a total with no time range for the "effort" reports would work for me...

I would like to use time based filter (e.g., show only for selected month) in the block view. To my understanding, block view is the only way to visualize time spent for different tasks. Yet, it is problematic that you can not do this for selected time period.
Or is there some magical regular expression for this?

I would like to have a report where the y axis contains all tasks belonging to one (or several) selected categories and the x axis is effort per day (or week or month).
Each cell should contain the time spent.
Time spent on sub tasks should be included (or optional not).
That would give me a data sheet that I very easy can enter in our time report system. -

Can't believe that this idea was first posted in 2009 and there are still no reports! Or am I missing something? I just want to see a daily total for each task, week-by-week, so that I can fill in my timesheets. I would have expected something this fundamental to be part of this tool.

A view of all efforts or efforts on all marked tasks would be great.
At the bottom the summary of time.
Then filter would be great.
Quick filter (today, last day, this week, last ... month + year)
Filter by time range (calender like e.g. google analytics)
Filter by category (I have a category for each team member, one for programming, one for meetings ...)
Export as CSV, Excel or Open Document table sheet would be great für individual purposes! -

A reports tab with a couple of the reports on it eg monthly and yearly summary, overdue tasks, overcost tasks would be good. I appreciate you can do these manually but making it simple for none technical users would improve the take up.

As a precursor, what about publishing an API so that the community could provide plug-ins for reports? Queryable interface that brings back JSON and then maybe a limited "web view" Viewer for presentation? Developers would be allowed to use javascript and CSS, maybe access to a FOSS web-graphing plug-in and jQuery to provide reporting modules? This would both enable reporting enhancements that may not burden the core development team AND it opens the door to automated interoperability with more enterprisey type tools.

Just a thought/request. Please add 'effort' in the export>csv

Thanks, I overlooked that feature. It's really helpful.

@bjhend:
You can already limit to a single task or to a tree by using the search feature or by opening the effort tab within the particular task's editor window.

Beside limiting to a date/time range I'd appreciate additional limiting to a single task or a subtree of tasks to keep an overview if you have many tasks. Such that it would be easy to find out how much time I spend on a certain hierarchy of tasks since the last team meeting, for example.

To be clear, I think the effort viewer can do everything here except for filtering by a customizable date range. Is that right, or am I missing something?

My use case for this: I got a weekly meeting with my supervisor where he wants to know how much time I spend for which task since last meeting. The meetings often got shifted for some hours or a day.
So, it would be nice to generate an effort report between two arbitrary timestamps. And it would be really nice if Taskcoach finds out the timestamps by parsing an iCal file, but that's probably beyond a realistic wish.

From organazer I can see, what I planned and what I finished. But some my customer want blank-report. I think, it's must be export to the xml-file or Excel-file or something else, when user (me) can drawing blank-table

I've recently been asked to provide monthly or quarterly time accounting and ability to get a time spent per item in a time period would be very helpful.

It would be very helpful to be able to view efforts joined accordingly to the hierarchy level. I see this feature as a dropdown box on the effort-viewer with title "join on nesting level" and values 1, 2, 3, 4...

@Jacob We use the free open source plan of Uservoice. So that is a great service. Unfortunately, merging of feature requests is not part of that plan.
