@abcd There is already a popular request for making the edit window work as a pane: https://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/466618-adding-an-edit-viewer
cheers

This preview pane could actually just be the task properties window that opens up when we double click a task. This way it would be simple to implement, and work wonders for us users.

What a great idea! This would broaden the scope of the app significantly.

I came here looking for this too. Please help by adding this feature..

This has been requested for over 6 years now - I am disapointed to see that it would be ignored for so long because it tells me the developers are not responsive. For me, like others who have commented, I cannot use this app without this feature....

I can't use this great app without this feature. A note / description pane is necessary to plan tasks more efficient.

I'd like to see this too. I'd be very happy if it works exactly like the "effort for selected tasks" pane works, but showing notes instead.

@Fer,
There are still only two developers working only in their free time on Task Coach. And this request simply hasn't been worked on yet, given some easier things and focus on the top request which is technically challenging.
I am not a programmer myself but help with other things so the other guys can focus more on programming. Otherwise, I am developing a new funding/patronage system overall to help projects like Task Coach really get funded, dedicated development time. Until my project is functional, the little bits of support here and there are good motivation to continue but don't really change the amount of free time the few developers have for the project.

I am moving from MylifeOrganized to TaskCoach and I also miss this feature. As soon as you select a task in your list (or in the tree) you can see in another pane (it doesn't matter where it is) the essential information: sometimes you need to remember key details but other times you need to redefine the properties (dates, priority, urls, etc)... This feature will empower this fantastic tool. At least this is my opinion.

@Chris, I agree (see my comment below about how I envision this working)
Also, there's a separate request for full rich-text:
https://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/1785519-notes-other-description-fields-support-rich-textFinally, if you have thoughts about how to improve things, please feel free to get involved. this is Free/Libre Open Source Software after all. We have a public developer's discussion group at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/taskcoach-dev/
Anyone is welcome to join and discuss ideas about priorities and how we should implement things (although notice that there are already several hundred feature requests which we are struggling to get to, and I already have a lengthy list of additional improvements I want to see and we're just getting to bit-by-bit).Cheers,

I think what is needed here is a viewer for the CONTENTS of the note ( ie. "description" field). Contents is the base data that people need to store and organise - you've done the organisation brilliantly, but contents data needs to be easily accessible and formattable, even multi-media (include hot links to URLS and files, playable media/ slideshows).
As a writer of databases, I can see your gripe about what are essentially 2D Databases - you've successfully created a multi-dimensional database, but you have to remember that the function of a database manager is not only to store and retrieve data, but to PRESENT the data well. To do this, you have to bear in mind what the data is used for. This is not really a programmer's job, it's the job of a business system designer/analyst, but in fact programmers have to implement it. Version 1.3.22 is the result of good programming, but needs more thought in the systems design area.

Add me to the list of people who aren't going to be using Task Coach until this is implemented. The ability to see notes related to the tasks without having to click into sub windows is essential. Please implement asap.

Sounds to me like most users here should also be voting for this other request:
https://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/466618-adding-an-edit-viewerThat would make this basically functional for description and with some improvements to notes pane in the editor that would do it completely.
I personally would be happy with a two-pane (A) notes list and (B) editable description pane WITHIN the task editor window's note's tab and in the note viewer, (and also in the notes viewer), but I don't especially care about having this pane connected to the task viewer.

A separate view for details of the selected task, showing description, attachments, and a summary of dates and effort would be awesome. I agree with commenters that having to open each task to view details isn't very practical and a quick preview / overview of particular task will certainly assist productivity. Thanks.

Will be nice to have note pane below task list and when you click on task it will show you the notes. Current situation when you need to open every task is not practic. When I review all task I can not just push down arrow, I have to open every task. Bubble notification is not so useful, because it is annoying when you dont need it. Some comments are too long and then the bubble is to hight etc.

I would like to be able to click on a task and see the efforts that only apply to that particular task.

This would be very useful feature. I wish I could scroll down my tasks and be able to see notes/descriptions in separate pane. As it is a task manager maybe notes and description could be combined in one field.
Additionally it would be great if this note field could use active links as it is in Tomboy, where I can paste url address and it is automatically highlighted in blue and active and when I click it it opens in default web browser. It is useful because many of my tasks are just searching for information and gather information. -

This is a really crucial aspect of using notes, and without it the functionality and reason for using the tool are pretty much lost.

I also think this feature is the main reason for me not to switch over to TaskCoach. I would be more specific on how it could be desingned:
- Add another viewer for Description and Notes. It should have two tabs in it, a description tab and a notes tab.
- This viewer would show the description / notes of the task, category (or note) which is currently selected in any of the other windows. It should also be possible to edit the contents of this new viewer.
