Rearrange columns in viewers with drag and drop
Being able to re-arrange the displayed columns with a simple drag & drop would be a good feature. Then you could prioritize the columns that are most important to you.
Re-arranging the order of columns by drag and drop is one of the most requested features for Task Coach. As you may know, our small development team struggles with finding enough time to maintain Task Coach, support users (which we do for free) and develop new features.
We attempted a fundraiser to hire an outside developer to program the feature for us, but the fundraiser was not successful. It was just a test and there are many reasons it could have gone better. We are aware of and are exploring alternative fundraising options in general.
The reason this particular feature is expensive is that it needs change in the underlying wxWidgets framework that we use and needs an outside developer. But there is a lower-cost easy alternative to customizing column order and we will probably implement it soon: we could use the same interface we currently use for customizable toolbars. I think that’s the best compromise.
In the mean time, development continues on other features.
Best regards,
Task Coach developers

@Caitlin:
Free is Freedom, that is what is important and what the GPL license is about. Free in price is not as important. We are happy to get paid support. However, a few donations here and there don't make enough of a difference. The fundraiser was a test, and there are various reasons it didn't work and lots to do. There are also other ways to achieve an effective column-rearranging.
Anyway, thanks for your comment. The actual thing is: I came to the Task Coach project with similar ideas and have since dedicated my main time to creating a completely new funding system for Free Software and Free/Libre/Open culture and educational works and science etc. We are not in the public functioning stage, but are getting there.
I am well aware of all of the various funding systems people are trying. My system is using the best of existing ideas but is doing some revolutionary things to change the whole way this works. If you're interested enough to learn more or get involved in the project, you can see the website at snowdrift.coop where you can send us a message expressing interest.
Otherwise, there already exist 600 funding platforms and tons of ideas, none of which are truly adequate in my view. But the closest to this idea for funding specific features is freedomsponsors.org — you can already go there and offer to pledge something for anyone who will help Task Coach implement a feature you want. And you can ask others to chip in too. I'm not completely optimistic about that platform, but if it works, great.
Note: the reason we can't get to everything isn't because we need a few extra dollars, although it is appreciated. We are all very busy and just doing this in our spare time. The funding needed to truly change the pace of development would need to be enough to hire a new part-time developer or for one of us to work less at our day jobs. This may eventually be achieved by the system I am inventing. We will see.
Cheers,

About the fundraiser: could you accept the idea of adopting the Android Apps strategy? Yes, that would mean this beautiful app is NOT 100% free but you may make some steps ahead with development...
By AA strategy I mean encouraging the users to send you small amounts, say 1-2-3 EUR/user for each idea or improvement they would like to see implemented - I saw that certain ideas have hundred of supporters, maybe some of them will be ready to pay a ridiculously small amount of money IF they see that is directed to the right/desired direction.
I know that there are many cheap bastards out there but as much as I understood from this requests there are a lot of us that have in Task Coach one of their most treasured tool for daily activity.
Good luck and keep up the good work! -

I noticed this already is possible within the task editor window tabs, it just needs to be doable with the tabs within the main window and the columns within the task view
