think about the relationship of data to the calendar
this is just another calendar style to do lister, A Good One, and that is fine - as far as it goes. however;
make a list through one at a time dialog box entry system
apparently a large number of people think this way, that is, in make it here and place it there ,
there was a program called " InControl " the only program I know of that / wait, clarisworks had a simular outliner / but InControl was an integrated calendar and to do lister / organizer.
the contrast of between the vast majority of programs and InControl is the foundational start point/ typical calendar and list program stands on the calendar, the list is second = TaskCoach is the same but without the calendar view -- I can see this formula functional for a "working along say at a desk, an appointment comes up, just add it in and it is logged to the calendar/ list. However, for development, cultivating, and in progress of a project, this formula is cumbersome and restrictive.
in contrast the formula of InControl was the "outline list" which automatically generated a calendar posting. the outline being hierarchal and drag to rearrange, with tags that allowed simple to very complex sorting and grouping.
in the outline mode, add a date put a note in the calendar, view List, Calendar, or Both. the fundamental purpose of the program was allow the person charging the project to work on the project with as little effort and though for the program as possible. Allowing views of task steps overall/ in progress/ complete/ even a gantt view.
so the difference is; an appointment calendar OR a project development tool.
I truly and sorely MISS InControl, this was a Mac program that had its last update durring Apple OS 8. Since then I have not found even ONE program that provides the same or simular function.

Karl, I am having a hard time understanding your request.
I haven't used InControl.
To be clear, I like the GTD position that true calendar is completely separate from tasks. Calendar items are meetings, appointments, events. If you don't get them done at that time, they can't be done later because the event is past, and that's that. Neither can you do them earlier. Tasks, on the other hand, are more flexible, you can do them a little sooner or a little later, sometimes you can still do them even when they are late.
Task Coach is not a calendar-style lister necessarily. Yes, it uses date and time, but this is flexible. You could completely ignore that and just have tasks sorted by tags and priority. The main focus is hierarchies. You can have subtasks within subtasks, which reflect how real life works.
Unlike real calendar-focused task managers, Task Coach is flexible because you can distinguish between a time you plan to start vs when you actually start, and reminders are independent also. The calendar view is just an accessory way to view things, not the focus of the program.
I do suspect that there is something else you are getting at with InControl, but I don't understand it yet. Please understand that Task Coach is not like a calendar. I think Task Coach already does more than you realize and can get closer to what you want than you are assuming. So consider that, but then figure out what you still are looking for and try to explain it again or post a link.
Best,
Aaron
