Preview Notes and Description
The Description of a task should be shown as preview text below the task entry and not as separate column (optional). The same goes for notes. Or as incorporate a complete preview pane below the tree, as already mentioned.
I’m closing this because it really is just a duplication of these more popular requests:
Please consider moving your votes to those. We will not be separately considering the request here. Those other requests are the way this will be implemented.
Thanks

I think most users who want this should instead just vote for this other request to dock the task editor in the main window:
http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/330094-dock-task-editor-as-pane-in-main-windowOtherwise, description is already shown up to 4 lines in the description column and is shown in a popup hover when the cursor is over any task…

Yes, I think it would be wonderful if a task description could be seen and edited directly in the main window, in the additional pane below task list like for example in most email software. But this feature should be optional and should be set up in Preferences.

Another idea...currently, you can mouse over the title to display the description, but the problem is that without actually mousing over the title, you have no way of knowing whether or not a task contains a description. Therefore, an alternate approach would be to have a column that would simply display an icon if the task contains a description, in much the same way that it displays icons for attachments and notes when they are present. That way, you at least know that there's a more detailed description available and you can mouse over the icon to view it.

I'm presently out of votes, but I strongly support this feature request. Many times, I find it necessary to add a description to clarify a task. Without a detailed description, I find that I often gloss over tasks because it's not immediately apparent what the task is and why it's important. Currently, the only way to view the description is to add a separate column, but this is definitely not ideal because to accommodate the column, the window has to be made unacceptably wide and many tasks don't have a description, so you end up with a ton of wasted space. It would be much better if the description appeared directly underneath the title of the task, in a smaller font. You could have a preference setting to display or hide the description by default and there could be some type of switch in the UI that would allow for hiding and showing descriptions for individual tasks. Perhaps a right-click context menu item combined with a keyboard shortcut, such as pressing the space bar to toggle the display of the description.

I second the preview pane idea
