Allow multiple windows to be real windows instead of only the special floating windows or the main window
I use KDE, for example, and I want to make the square map window a true separate window puttable on all desktops & visible while the main window is minimized. At the moment the square map minimizes with the main window and I can't set it to stay visible when the other window is minimized. Because the floating windows aren't regular windows, I can't control them in all the flexible ways that KDE makes possible.

I edited your request to make a little more sense, but not sure you need it still.
The issue isn't specific to Kubuntu or KDE even.
Here's the thing: when you add a new viewer, it starts as a special floating window. You can drag it and see the docks to place it in a position in relation to the main window rather than leave it as floating.
So you can get what you want right now:
1. open the square map viewer
2. drag it and dock it in the same location as the main task viewer, and then it will become a second tab in the same pane
3. choose the square map tab whenever you want to see that
4. (optional) click the *internal* expand button that is in the *pane* (not the one for the whole window, and then the square map will fill the main windowThis is a normal window and will be adjustable in all the ways KDE offers. Thus, you have a square map that you can set to be on all desktops. And you can simply unexpand to see the other panes and click the other tab to go back to the regular task view.
So this is *not* exactly the same as two different windows. You won't fully minimize anything in this case, the whole program is still tied together. Except you *can* have it where the only thing you see is the square map, and the other stuff is still available, and the window will be fully adjustable in KDE.
Cheers
