Adding an "edit" viewer
I suggest adding the option for a new "Edit" viewer. This would be an optional viewer that can placed to be always viewed, similar to other viewers.
This "Edit" viewer would simply be an edit view of whatever object currently has focus (if the object has an edit option).
For example, if a category has focus then the edit options of that category are displayed and edits can be done and saved automatically. If focus is then switched to a task, then the "Edit" viewer will display the editing options for that task. This allows for increased editing efficiency and speed.
The viewer is of course optional so that if you don't want to have instant edit & save access to all your objects you don't have to.
I like task coach because I can use it for tasking and most importantly time tracking of work that I am currently doing. While Coach is effective at helping track my work and time spent, it gets a bit clunky at times having to select what I'm doing to then open up the edit pop-up, then modify, then save.
I think that a viewer like this would be beneficial to many people especially those of us who use Coach in a way that requires frequent editing of tasks, categories, and etc.
Thank you.

I'm looking for a mac to-do list that can compare well to the (windows only) software by AbstractSpoon that I had been using. Except for being able to edit any field and view the detailed description/notes for a task simply by having it selected in the list, TaskCoach looks like it's hitting most of the rest of my requirements. (I didn't realize just how much I depended on being able to see the long description until I didn't have it!)

i hope that this idea is like the windows in thunderbird/or Outlook. when i navigate to one mail i can see in a third window (dockable) the whole mailtext. in TaskCoach mail=task, mailtext=TaskWindow with all Tabs to edit.

Ally,
What you want is already possible. There just isn't a dedicated button. Any effort can be edited to add a description. This is via editing a task or via an effort viewer. To open the editor at the same time you start tracking just use cntrl-E instead of the other start tracking options. Note that this won't stop the previous effort though, so you'll have to do that separately. I do hope to improve how this function works, but basically it already does what you want!Cheers

i just started using and like it so far, but
id like the feature to time track efforts. along with notes about what was done during that time. but also needs to be very easy.. just click a button like starting time tracking..you need to be able to click on a task.. start time. and add notes about what you did.. .

I just closed another request that I felt was basically a duplicate, but it suggested a good way to achieve this:
Basically make the task editor itself dockable to the main window as a pane.If this were set so that it also updated based on the item selected in the task viewer, that would do it. This wouldn't then include editing for categories, but it is far rarer that users should need to edit categories.
