Prerequisites - Starting, Activating, Completing - Enhancing options
Currently it seems that tasks can only be started if prerequisite tasks have been completed. I think there should be more options to adapt the prerequisites/dependencies of tasks to other tasks - peer, parent and child.
An example. I have organised my studies in this format -
- My Course > 1.1. Year 1 >> 1.1.1. Semester 1 >>> 1.1.1.1. Unit A >>> 1.1.1.2. Unit B >>> 1.1.1.3. Unit C >> 1.1.2. Semester 2 >>> 1.1.2.1. Unit D etc > 1.2. Year 2 etc
Starting my course depends on my starting the first year, first semester and a unit.
While I am studying, my course is active in the general sense, even if I am on holiday between semesters and not active with a subtask.
Years are also active even if Semesters are not.
These might might be called abstract tasks or container tasks.
Completing my course is dependent on my completing all units and is active until then.
So, I would recommend clarification and enhancement of dependencies (prerequisites) for Starting, Activating and Completing various tasks.
Thanks for your consideration.

"activate" is really called "actual start" and you can do that even if prereqs are incomplete.
You can also still *view* tasks that have reached their "planned start" but have unfinished prereqs by showing inactive tasks, and find them via the planned-start column which you can make visible in the task view.
At some level, it makes little sense to start a task that has unfinished prereqs. It would mean the prereqs aren't really required. But I understand there could be times in which you *want* to do something first even though it isn't absolutely necessary.
Another workaround / option is to add reminder notifications which will show up even if prereqs aren't complete.
Cheers,
