Support for accessing Task Coach items on Android
Note from the Task Coach team: this item was updated to clarify some support for Android in some form. There is another request for a full Task Coach Android app, but we don't have the resources to do it, so it's more an issue of finding new team members who want to do the work of developing the app.
See the other request here:
https://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26480-other-task-coach-requests/suggestions/2652582-a-full-android-version-of-task-coach-comparable-t
But voting on that won't do much, as we aren't capable of making this happen right now. Please do whatever you can to recruit developers for this. We would love to see it happen.
Release 1.2.26 has the ability to import/export tasks from/to the Todo.txt format. Using the free Simpletask app for Android (in Google Play or from F-Droid here: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=nl.mpcjanssen.simpletask ) you can edit your tasks on your Android device and then import them again in Task Coach. If you turn on automatic importing and exporting in the preferences dialog, Task Coach keeps its task file in sync with the accompanying todo.txt file. See the Help in Task Coach for more information.
The big advantage (for us ;-) of this solution is that Todo.txt (and the Todo.txt format) are open source as is the Simpletask app, so that developing Todo.txt integration was/is relatively easy to do.
Because Task Coach is developed by just two people (Jérôme and Frank) , developing and supporting another app in another programming language is simply not an option. That’s the main reason why I opted for integration with another (open) task application for now.
I know that this solution doesn’t really fulfil the feature request (Develop an Android version) but I hope it’s close enough for many of you. Of course we welcome feature requests for improving Task Coach/Todo.txt integration or for supporting other Android task applications. Note: the more information you can provide about those third party Android apps, the better. If they cost money, please be prepared to buy us two copies :-)
Cheers, Frank

Jerome, I'm just beginning to learn Android development. I would be interested in tackling this application if you would indeed document the synchronization protocol like you offered to several months back.

The iPhone version has not sold very well so far; I don't see why an Android one would do much better. Not worth it.
I took a look at the sync APIs for RTM; the system does not seem very open source-friendly and it's not very polished yet. My conclusion was that it was not possible to support syncing with RTM right now. Maybe that will change.

One idea, you can make a version for Android taskcoach and publish it in Android Market, you can sell it. I think many people would be willing to pay for it.
One suggestion, you can develop taskcoah synchronization with Remember The Milk and the new versions that desarrolleis for Android.
What do you think?

Would people be interested in donating for time? My employer allows me to "buy" extra holidays. I´d be willing to spent that time on working on an Android version of Task Coach. However, the amount of money donated needs to be significant... Extra days are not cheap.

At present, nothing would promote Task-Coach so much like an Android version. Don't dream of missing that.

Would love to have an Android version. Perhaps one of these days I'll try to dabble in learning Android development.

The rationale behind supporting Android is probably not lost on any of us, so the only thing left is materializing it...those who are able please rise to Jeromes call, come on people this would probably be one of the greatest productivity Andriod apps...

We're not a company, this is done on our spare time. Given the time I spend on Task Coach (both desktop and iPhone/iPad), if I wrote and started maintaining an Android version I couldn't have a life any more :)
On the other hand, if someone else with the motivation and knowledge wishes to take it up, I can document the synchronization protocol.

I live in an area that only gets Sprint service, so I can't have an iPhone. I
have an Android HTC phone and would love to have Task Coach for my phone that I can sync with my Mac. Please make an Android version. It would
be a good business choice for your company to serve this rapidly growing
mobile platform. -

I would also like to see an Android version. The Android is a growing OS with a large user base, so it would seem to make sense to support it alongside iOS.

Really hope to see an android app. I can't call myself a developer but from what I've learned so far about android development, building user interfaces seems to be pretty easy.

I would gladly pay for a version that works on android whether its a native Android version ;)
You have done some amazing work with your application.
-
Still, the user interface needs to be done from scratch. Anyway, I have an Android phone myself now, so who knows :-)

Have you seen the new (June 2009) Android Scripting Environment? It supports Python, so that may simplify it.

I've just moved from WinMo to Android - and I know I'm not the only one. Android is up and coming!

I would gladly beta test this on Android 1.5 (Cupcake)

Yes, please! The Motorola Droid + Android 2.0 should bring a LOT of new customers to this base (myself included!).

This would have to be developed from scratch since the iPhone OS is very different from Android.
