this would be possible if User defined hot keys were implemented (http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/289007-user-defined-hotkeys-keyboard-shortcuts-), esp. the comment using [meta]-[T] (for example) to create a new task or effort.

@frank: yes, Gimp has the same feature, called "dynamic keyboard shortcuts", though it's not enabled by default. http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/gimptutorials/tp/dynamic-shortcuts.htm and http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-concepts-shortcuts.html

+1, especially if the windows meta key can be used (For example I'd like [Win]+[T] for open new task regardless of what application currently has focus).

maybe Flattr will help a bit here as it can be more frictionless to use than paypal donations. I started a Taskcoach flattr thing from your twitter feed: https://flattr.com/unclaimedthings/view/thing/e70706c92391ea83c45a8ab1c6f60f0e
