There are still only two developers working only in their free time on Task Coach. And this request simply hasn't been worked on yet, given some easier things and focus on the top request which is technically challenging.
I am not a programmer myself but help with other things so the other guys can focus more on programming. Otherwise, I am developing a new funding/patronage system overall to help projects like Task Coach really get funded, dedicated development time. Until my project is functional, the little bits of support here and there are good motivation to continue but don't really change the amount of free time the few developers have for the project.

Sounds to me like most users here should also be voting for this other request:

I personally would be happy with a two-pane (A) notes list and (B) editable description pane WITHIN the task editor window's note's tab and in the note viewer, (and also in the notes viewer), but I don't especially care about having this pane connected to the task viewer.

You don't have to use the menu. Just shows the categories on the side in a category viewer (it should be default but if you closed it, get it back via View > New Viewer > Category. Then, you can just filter by checking the boxes there.

I don't think this makes that much sense. Besides the click button in the toolbar to start tracking, you can always use the keyboard options Ctrl-T (Cmd-T on OS X) to track a selected task. That's pretty fast and simple already. We could add this as an option potentially if there's lots of support for it.

There is a way to access Task Coach items on Android through todo.txt format using the Free/Libre/Open app Simpletask

There's an unofficial closed-source thing someone made, but we can't formally support or endorse it. There was never any rejection about making an Android client, it's just that it's a lot of work and we don't have the resources currently. Volunteers welcome, especially those up for respecting the necessarily Open Source licenses so this can be sustainable.

@Amanda: for the record, what you are talking about is "Free Software" as in the Free Software Foundation. That is a philosophy that cares about freedom as a principle. The term "Open Source" is often used to emphasize simply that allowing more input from many people is often a good way to get good code, and "Open Source" advocates sometimes downplay the ethics and importance of freedom.
I am myself in the Free Software camp, where I believe the ethics and freedom are the top priority. I discovered Task Coach and then joined the team specifically because I was seeking a way to free myself from Apple. As a long-time Mac user, I am highly offended at the extreme lock-down and ads in software and privacy problems with the iOS and Apple's direction overall.
Not everyone always agrees about these things, however. The other Task Coach developers are good folks and appreciate freedom but are not as focused on it. They are happy to keep using Apple products, whereas I am hoping to figure out how to move entirely to GNU/Linux. None of the Task Coach developers happen to be knowledgeable about programming for Android. There was never a decision that it "mattered" less or anything like that.
FWIW, the strongest Free Software advocates do not approve of Android either because most of the Google stuff on it is proprietary, tracks you, etc etc. And, in case you didn't know, you should at least install F-Droid so you can get the best FLOSS for Android.
Anyway, it is a shame that we don't have an Android version but shaming us will make no difference. This is just an example of the challenges in this world. We need a knowledgeable Android developer to volunteer to do it if we are to get an Android version.

B.S., The scope of the problem is that there is far more to do with just basic stuff in the existing platforms than the small development team can handle. We simply need a new member of the team with Android experience to do this. Please feel free to try to recruit someone.
Also, Task Coach is not php. Task Coach is written in Python. The iOS version is something else entirely.

"activate" is really called "actual start" and you can do that even if prereqs are incomplete.
You can also still *view* tasks that have reached their "planned start" but have unfinished prereqs by showing inactive tasks, and find them via the planned-start column which you can make visible in the task view.
At some level, it makes little sense to start a task that has unfinished prereqs. It would mean the prereqs aren't really required. But I understand there could be times in which you *want* to do something first even though it isn't absolutely necessary.
Another workaround / option is to add reminder notifications which will show up even if prereqs aren't complete.

You can do this another way already (if I understand the request correctly). Just add an "effort viewer" to your screen and you can see the efforts specifically in a pane or tab of the main window (you can position it wherever you like)

If you add the "hide due soon" and other toolbar option to your task viewer (use the gear icon), and also the *remove all filters* tool, then you can quickly remove all filters in the task view while *still* filtering by categories. When you want to go back, you can remove the category filter and quickly filter again by the task states you want to filter out.
That's the best approach right now.

@plummabokkie Claiming that your tasks are appointments in your calendar is not recommended! That causes people to not recognize the difference between something that only happens at a certain time or something flexible.
A task is something I could do now or maybe later, up to some deadline. An appointment can't be done early, it's a specific event. They are fundamentally different. GTD and many other approaches strongly discourage mixing these up. Tasks and calendar are not at all the same.

There are already menu commands and keyboard shortcuts (shift-ctrl-E and shift-ctrl-C) so it would be pretty easy to add optional toolbar buttons for that.

I changed the request from the original. If you want strictly 10 levels of priority, just use 10. We're not going to change the unlimited range 0-neutral system. For others to vote on this, it needs to be a clear single request anyway.

Cesar, it is true that auto-save will mean updates that any sync service will then update. It shouldn't be a huge overhead though. You could try a different sync service. At any rate, any other system that saves files frequently causes the same issue, including Google's SaaS stuff (their services) on the web.
If you are saying that it is repeatedly saving the file even when you are not making a change (just you have a task currently active), that is a bug, and should be reported at https://sourceforge.net/p/taskcoach/bugs

I like these ideas. A variation could be to simply highlight the words of any categories according to what is selected in the task list. There is already a request for assigning by drag/drop though.
It's really not ideal, but I tend to use the right-click contextual menu myself for now.

I understand the request, but there's no way you are wishing to have things like a priority of 17 with you system where "1" is highest. Our system is infinite range, and it is really valuable and offers control you do not get with fixed small range. If you want just 1-2-3 or "high" "med" "low" just make a "priority" category" with those as subcategories.
There's a level where having a million options is the wrong way to go. It's better to simply use a well-designed option the way it works even though there exist other designs.
Still, leaving the request open for now as it is a valid request.

Is this simply a request to round the tracking itself and not just the reports. In the effort viewer, you can already show the results as rounded. What's the point of forcing the tracking to be rounded?

I'm not sure how this could make any sense. Priority in our system is limitless. 0 = neutral and you can have any positive or negative number from their to sort priority however you like. My own large list goes from -11 to 10 right now. I have no idea how you would do this with a graphic. Anyway, sorting is easy, just choose to sort by priority. You can do what I do and make priority a column and sort by that.
There is already an option to inherit completion status when all subtasks are complete.
The priority number is semi-inherited too. It will show the highest priority subtask number in parentheses if it's higher than the parent task's priority.
Adding some indication of active or late state could be sensible if done right. In Tree view, it does at least still show the parent and sort by status when that's enabled.
