In general, it is considered bad practice if an application grabs focus without the user doing anything. Suppose you're composing an email message and suddenly the reminder window pops up and grabs the focus so you're now typing into the reminder window. That would be annoying, right?

This partly works already: select the tasks you want to print (use Ctrl-Click to select multiple tasks), then select the File->Print menu item and in the print dialog check the "Selection" print range.

Here's a work-around: click once to select one item and then ctrl-click that same item to remove the selection.

Did you know that when you have categories selected in the category viewer that new tasks and notes automatically have those categories checked?

View->Filter->"Remove all filters" also clears all categories. That menu item also clears other filters, like hiding completed tasks, so it is unfortunately not a complete solution.

Good suggestion. In the mean time, you can select multiple adjacent tasks with the keyboard (shift-down or shift-up) and then delete them (ctrl-delete).

On the toolbar of the effort viewer is a dropdown menu that you can use to put the effort viewer in different modes: one of those modes is daily effort. Please explain why that is not sufficient. Thanks, Frank

Thanks, but you're the first to mention Open Solaris. It might just work if you're able to install Python and wxPython for Open Solaris. Have you tried that?

I´m not sure the tree widget allows for big green checkboxes :-) I´ll check.

I agree that this would be nice. However, since the categories already use checkboxes for filtering I´m a bit afraid it may be confusing that checkboxes have very different effects for tasks and categories.

BTW, you can also right-click and select mark completed from the context menu.

Note to self: what bart2pub calls layout is called a "perspective" in Eclipse.

@xa2: OK, I understand. But if the iPhone app would support hierarchical tasks would you still not want that parent task to be synced?

Why not use notes to enter the subtasks that are not really tasks?

There are already a number of filters you can use, just like with the regular task viewer, to e.g. hide completed tasks. What other filters would you like to see?

With a bit more work you can do this yourself right now by creating (sub)categories for low/medium/high priority and then assigning different colors to these categories. The disadvantage of this work-around is that you have to manipulate both the priority and the category of a task so I'm not suggesting this as a permanent solution.
