1.2.3 Feature missing for a while? Hiding parent tasks of filtered categories when all subtasks are hidden
Hi! Thanks for the awesome project and your hard-work.
I remember this was a topic of some discussion way back when. I've been sticking to the older versions because of it. I wasn't sure if its removal was a design decision.
The feature note in 1.2.3 was the following:
Hide parent task when all of its subtasks are hidden by filtered categories and the parent task itself doesn't belong to the filtered categories.
The recent versions don't seem to do that anymore.
Example:
[Categories]
Current->Work
SomedayMaybe->Work
Task 1 is categorized SomedayMaybe->Work
Subtask 1 is categorized Current->work and is now completed and hidden
I filter based on Current->Work only
Task 1 still shows up with no subtasks listed
If this feature was removed, can you please suggest a way to get a similar bucketing paradigm?
Ok, I see what you mean. But yes, this is a bug, not a feature request. Add a ticket here:
https://sourceforge.net/p/taskcoach/bugs
And to make sure I’m clear: The problem is this:
If a category filter is to show a subtask, it must show the parent in tree view in order to show the subtask.
But if the subtask is itself hidden not because of categories, but because you are hiding completed tasks, then in this case, the parent shouldn’t be shown.
In other words, sometimes the showing of a subtask forces the parent to be shown. But this is happening incorrectly when completed tasks are hidden because the incomplete parent is still shown BECAUSE of its subtask, yet this should not be so because the subtask is completed and so is hidden.
Makes sense, although your wording was confusing to me at first. This is not a conscious decision, just a bug.
Please report it, thanks!

Hey Aaron. Thanks for your quick response! Yea, it was a little bit difficult to explain the situation but your understanding is exactly correct.
Sorry for the mis-post -- I didn't know there was a separate tracker. Waiting for SF registration to go through and I'll post the bug. Thanks for your help, again!

Actually, List-view works as I'd hope. Tree-view is where I was seeing issues.
I'm fine with that, but maybe it's a bug?
