Enable encryption of the tsk files
Task plans are sometimes very confidential. Is it possible to automatically store the task file with encryption? This would ensure the content is safe independent of who administrates the file system, backups and so on.
There are a two reasons why I don’t want to implement this:
1. Many people using Task Coach are computer novices. I know some of these people are going to forget their passphrase (or don’t even realize they have encrypted their task file at all) and blame Task Coach (or us) for losing their data.
2. People that really need it can use other options to store their task file encrypted, such as a TrueCrypt volume.
Cheers, Frank

Regarding encryption issue, I prefer CloudBacko software for backing up my data. Best software for file duplication & incremental backup, because CloudBacko software gives us Zero loss of data because duplication of the data takes place in Cloudbacko at multiple destination. So due to which data remains protected and secured because healthy encryption is done, which is impossible to break. Try at least one time CloudBacko software.

Hello Frank,
First thank you for all this work!
I hope my comment can help you to understand why this functionality is crucial for some person like me:
-I need to start TaskCoach on more than 3 PCs at home (the one that my family let me) and at work: so it is too much work to instal everywhere a TrueCrypt volume at home and at work, it is vorbidden by firm policy, at least on hard drive, USB could be a solution.
-At home like at work, I need that as soon as I reduce window or am inactive at PC, one can display the task list only if password is given.
todolist abstractspoon is a good example of this functionality.
Maybe it can help you to understand why this feature can be crucial.
Thanks for all the work made! -
@Tony You're welcome to implement and support this feature :-)

I would like to add my comment:
lots of applications allow to use password to encrypt content. Using password/encryption should be a user choice. So, when a user chooses to password protect a file, I can imagine that he cannot blame anyone other than himself in case he looses his password. I can't see a real problem in implementing a password/encryption system here. My 2c ;).tony

The iOS version does not use .tsk files but a local database. Since apps are sandboxed, the only way for someone to get your data would be to restore your device backup. You have an option in iTunes to encrypt the backup.

It would be fine if the Ipod App would work with encrypted tsk too.

I don't think this functionality belongs in TaskCoach. It would add bulk, and can be done with specialized software (e.g., TrueCrypt or LUKS). It would be a pain to maintain vulnerabilities, etc. It would only make sense considering the data should be compatible with mobile equipment (such as iPhone today, or maybe Android or Symbian tomorrow) where the crypto facilities may not be available and where they are most needed.

Why not store the file on an encrypted partition? -see TrueCrypt
