option that subtasks not be filtered by categories of parent task
EDIT: This request is to allow parent tasks to be shown with only a portion of their subtasks if a category filter is chosen where the parent and some (but not all) of the subtasks are explicitly marked with that category.
Original comment:
I have tree of tasks and tree of categories. When parent task is visible because it's category is selected then all child tasks are also visible regardless of what category they have. This is inconvenient and somewhat degrades "filter by category" feature. Would there be an option to show only tasks that ineed have a category that is currently selected regardless of category of parent task then this could help greatly.

Subtasks are by definition of the same category as their parent task since subtasks are part of their parent tasks. Do you have a concrete use case for this?
But how about reversed?
When I filter by subcategory on a subtask, the parent task is measured as well. That is not very smart in my opinion. -

I edited the request to make it a more reasonable idea given the way Task Coach works. I still think getting used to the way it works is better, but I could imagine people wanting this, so we can allow voting on it and will consider it if it becomes popular.

yeah - it would make sense if you want to apply the GTD (getting things done) concept using categories. then tasks would move "freely" between categories regardless of their parent/overall task - makes sense?

I think you should consider categories more carefully. Do NOT mark a parent task with a category label unless you want it to apply to all its internal tasks. I can't think of a situation where doing it this way would be a problem.
