Column showing only one selected category instead of all categories
It would be nice to be able to add columns showing only one category instead of just all categories.
This opens many possibilities:
- easy toggling a category on/off
- sorting
When a category has subcategories, the category column could show just the subcategories. If then there is possibility to make subcategories unique (choosing one subcategory unmarks the other subcategories), it's near of having custom user fields, enabling:
- easy choosing a subcategory
- sorting on subcategories

Brad, truncating the category list makes sense but is totally separate from this request here. Anyway, another solution to your issue is this:
That would be an icon indicating the presence of categories for an item, perhaps with a number, and then hovering would indicate which categories are marked.
The truncated listing also makes sense though.

I'd like an option to crop the category path so it only displays the last sub-category in the path. It's wastes a lot of space to display the entire category path in the column. In most cases, the last sub-category would be sufficient to identify the category.

I like the idea as a way to complement the assigment field requested before, so you can quickly check if a task has an important category (such as "responsible").
There could also be the need to show on the list more than one category as separate columns. -

I like the idea, but would advise different implementation(s)
allow easy category/tag switching on/off:
- there is a category filter view, but a category switch view would be a good counterpart. Switching either by a checkbox or by drag-and-drop on the category
-categories should get a weight, so this could be enhanced by a "group by" function. I'm thinking especially about categories like now/later/deferred in GTD terms
