NOTE: I edited this request to remove something that was already possible

also, in the efforts viewer, you can view description beyond just the hover popup by just showing the description column

    Anyway,
Users voting for this might actually be more interested in this request:

The standard behavior of double-clicking is either to do the same as single-clicking or to do some default action. We've updated the latest version (http://www.fraca7.net/TaskCoach-packages/latest_bugfixes.py) to make single and double the same: show/hide the window.

Let us know if you think this is a problem. If you know what to expect, I believe you will get comfortable with the standard behavior. Cheers

I edited this request to clarify how this could be done. The original request emphasized calculating a total for a parent task, but if there was a calculated total for each subtask, it would be combined when parents are collapsed, just as other columns in Task Coach already are.

I removed a second part of this request because it was a duplicate of this:

I think what we need is this:
    http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/3041511-a-column-for-total-expected-revenue-calculating-b

Then, with that including fixed fees, the existing "revenue" column ought to to just behave like the request here: revenue should include only actual efforts on hourly tasks and only *completed* items for fixed fee charges.

This could possibly be a preference setting.

Alternate idea: a setting for all fixed fees for whether they are collected just by starting or making the task or whether they are only due upon completion.

I don't use these features myself though. What do people think about these ideas?

You could just make your categories with these short codes, and then use the description to write your long name.

Otherwise, I think my suggestion here is a better more realistic solution to the real problem with excessively long column information:
    https://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/3071426-add-icon-only-iconized-option-for-most-columns

I edited the request to make it a more reasonable idea given the way Task Coach works. I still think getting used to the way it works is better, but I could imagine people wanting this, so we can allow voting on it and will consider it if it becomes popular.

I think you should consider categories more carefully. Do NOT mark a parent task with a category label unless you want it to apply to all its internal tasks. I can't think of a situation where doing it this way would be a problem.

So what you're looking for is just the Effort for one task viewer except that it should update to match the selected task, right?

Does it have to be a single click??
What about a command in the file menu?

I don't know of a "mark previous task completed" button, only the mark *selected* task complete button…
Am I confused or are you? Or I misunderstand you?

Anyway, I think what you want is this request:
    https://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/1964563-plugin-based-design-scripts-scriptable-options

We are very unlikely to build your particular request into the basic program.

    I like your easy solution.

    Another option is, do this:
    http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/563259-show-all-but-selected-categories-full-boolean-and

And then also have a way to quickly mark all the categories at once.
