An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedI already have a note that it would be nice to have an override for the # of hours that is considered due soon. Would you be comfortable with my editing this request to make it basically that? So it would be: "Allow a per-task override for # of hours to be marked due soon"
This would achieve what you want and also allow some tasks to be marked even earlier if desired.

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedHi Ally,
Notes are already possible. If you are seeing an effort in a viewer or in a task editor, you can just double-click or press ENTER while the effort is selected.
You can then enter notes for each effort. You can also right-click on the viewer's column headers and you can choose to show "description" so that the notes are viewable quickly from then on.
The only problem is that you can't just enter the notes right there, you have to enter the effort editor via double-click or enter (as I said above). So this request is to make it faster to enter these notes, but you can already enter and see them.
I do hope to improve the clarity about how to do this soon.
Cheers

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedWhy not just add a subtask or another task with the amount of budget you want and a zero hourly rate?

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedAnother request specifies a particular way to do this:
https://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/680683-drag-and-drop-tasks-into-categoriesAn alternate idea is to allow the assignment of some sort of key command to go with category tags for quickly adding them to selected tasks…

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedAlly,
What you want is already possible. There just isn't a dedicated button. Any effort can be edited to add a description. This is via editing a task or via an effort viewer. To open the editor at the same time you start tracking just use cntrl-E instead of the other start tracking options. Note that this won't stop the previous effort though, so you'll have to do that separately. I do hope to improve how this function works, but basically it already does what you want!Cheers
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedI just closed another request that I felt was basically a duplicate, but it suggested a good way to achieve this:
Basically make the task editor itself dockable to the main window as a pane.If this were set so that it also updated based on the item selected in the task viewer, that would do it. This wouldn't then include editing for categories, but it is far rarer that users should need to edit categories.

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedDecent request, but maybe this is all you want:
http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/333841-tiny-window-w-current-tracked-task-recent-task-lIf that seems good to you, vote for that, and we can close this request.
Truth is, some sticky-note thing is probably much harder to implement and isn't realistic.
But I'll leave your request open for now.Cheers,

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedThanks for the idea. We've been discussing how to improve the idle time notice.
For now, the workaround is: stop the effort at the time of idling (I want to add to the idle-time notice a way to do +/- time adjustment around that, but for now that's manual), then when you make an effort in the task you actually did: edit the effort and click "start tracking from last stop time"

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedTask Coach has more than closed and open. Task Coach has inactive, late, active, due soon, and overdue.
For other things, why not just use category tags? Is there a chance that the term "categories" makes it unclear that these are just tags for anything you want?
You can make a category for "project status" or something. Add subcategories for each status. You can even give each a unique appearance.
Otherwise, there's this request:
https://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/313688-add-custom-fieldsPlease clarify if you are requesting something else aside from these things. Otherwise, I'll close this request.
Thanks for using Task Coach and sharing your ideas.

I’m leaving this open, but one way this could be accomplished is with the combination of these requests:
http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/342012-filter-tasks-and-efforts-by-date-rangealso, this is sort of a duplicate of this:
http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/344994-when-setting-planned-time-mechanism-for-spreadingAn error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedSorry, you are correct. It isn't possible at this time. But those other requests I mentioned shouldn't be too difficult. But we're working as hard as we can to handle everything. We're just a small team working in our spare time. I think we'll get to this not too too long in the future… Thanks for your patience!

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedDo you want automatic completion? That's a reasonable request, especially for recurring events. It could allow auto-recurrence.
If you're talking about automatic stopping of effort tracking, that too is reasonable, but you should note that we already have the "idle time notice" in the preferences. By setting a timing for that, it will ask you if you accidentally left something running when you meant to stop it. Unfortunately, this only comes up if the entire computer has been inactive for a time, so it won't apply to situations where you left something tracking but were still doing computer activity.
Please clarify, it will help us make the most sense of your request (and encourage more votes).
Overall, know that we are aware of these issues, but it helps to get feedback and to know how important this is to users.
Cheers,

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedNote: I just posted what I think is a more important request that partly deals with the same issue:

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedThere's a newer request for simply improving the drag behavior too:
http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/3176558-allow-indent-make-subtask-by-dragging-a-task-to-An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedI edited this to be a separate issue from existing requests.
There's already this:
http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/1071023-add-priority-increase-decrease-buttons-to-toolbarThat's significant because there is no other current means for ordering events besides sorting, and priority is the way to get whatever custom sort you want. Also, the reason drag/drop isn't easy for changing order is because it isn't implemented yet as a feature at all.
Also, the idea of moving a task out from a parent is easy enough, but choosing what parent to put a task into is more complex.

Thank you for your suggestion.
I like your wording, but this is basically redundant to these existing requests:
http://taskcoach.uservoice.com/forums/26465-desktop-version-windows-linux-mac-of-task-coach/suggestions/371680-save-presets-of-defined-filters-and-sortingPlease consider vote for those others and adding your comments there. Thanks!
I changed my mind about closing your new request though for now. Could you please clarify whether you believe this new request is different from the others? And explain further what the effect of stacking would be. Thanks
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedOk, I think I understand more, but you could explain a concrete example of what you want and why it matters?

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedI don't understand exactly what you are requesting. Is this duplicating these requests:
Task Coach already keeps all your completed tasks. Are you confused just because you may be hiding completed tasks in your viewer?

Show all BUT selected categories / choose show any, show only, and HIDE as options for tag filtering
85 votesAn error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedMarcel, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
But although there might be some value in doing your idea, it isn't an actual work-around because:First, it will not ever show tasks that haven't been marked with categories, so there would still be no way to achieve that.
Second, it wouldn't work for tasks with multiple categories. Selecting all but certain categories will still show tasks from the unselected categories if they are also marked with any of the selected categories.
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminAaron Wolf (Admin, Task Coach) commentedI was going to post my own request but this is the same idea overall.
But I don't just want an overall NOT filter setting that works instead of the AND or OR filters already available, I want NOT to be able to be used simultaneously with the current filters.
Here's what I imagine:
option-click (or alt-click) on a category's checkbox: see a minus sign in the checkbox instead of a check. Filter then removes anything with that category from the list.
maybe also AND and OR can be used simultaneously too instead of the one-or-the-other way it is currently.
shift-click could add a + in the checkbox to create an OR functioning, while the normal checkbox works as AND.So I propose:
click = show check, all shown tasks MUST be marked with these categories
shift-click = show + sign, tasks that are not marked with any checked or + marked categories are filtered out, but tasks with any of the + marked categories are shown.
alt-click = show - sign, tasks marked with this category are NOT shown

Don't worry, Bob. When we implement a standard hourly fee, we won't remove the per-task setting!
