Add an option to default new tasks as active without having to add a planned start date.
I frequently add tasks that I consider active tasks, but I don't have a planned start date for them or I may not want to have a planned start date. I would like to have an option to default new tasks as active (rather than inactive) without having to add a planned start date.
I am aware that this currently can be done by choosing the preset option for the default planned start date, but I don't want to set a planned start date.
Please let me know if this is something you would consider adding to this awesome software.
3 votesInstead of default planned start date, just mark a default ACTUAL start date. That is what active means in Task Coach: actual start date is in the past.

Recurring Task day selection
It would be nice to allow me to select what day of the week I want my tasks to recur. I try to build as much structure into my day as I can, and I have a task I want to do every Monday. As I read it now, it will currently set the next recurrence for one week from completion, when I want it to recur every Monday
3 votesYour reading is mistaken. The “from completion” option is an option. You can choose to do it that way OR set it to repeat the same part of the week as the original dates (set Monday originally, it will stay on Mondays).
So it already works exactly as you want.

Use slash instead backslash on attachment file path
I use a dualboot (linux windows) and it's impossible to open an attached file when you change the OS :
If I put a file into a task by windows version software, it's impossible to see the file on linux version software.
This because windows use "\" for relative path and linux use only "/".Note that I don't talk about the attachment base directory. I set the same directory in two TaskCoach.ini (one for windows (D:) and one for linux (/media/HD))
Windows version can read and accept "/" on path file.
So is it possible to use only "/"…3 votesNice idea. Will be part of the next release.

Tooltip on effort
I was using the tooltips on the effort a lot.
Since the update to 1.3.40 they are not showing any more. I'm not sure but I think I was on 1.3.73 before. Can you please add them again, maybe with an user preference if somebody didn't like them ;)
3 votesI removed them by accident. Will be fixed in the next version.

Show "Time Spent" column in the Tasks view
Currently there is no view that shows the "Time Spent" for several tasks at a glance.
It would be usefull to diplay it as a column in the Tasks view.3 votesThis is already available. Right click on the column headers and find “Time Spent” under the “budget” submenu. It’s also available under the View>Columns menu. Cheers

Warning if no task is tracked during work hours
TaskCoach should show a popup if there are no tasks running during the 'working period'. If the PC is not idle and the it is during the working hours, a tip should be shown next to the icon in the taskbar or a popup window should be shown.
2 votesThere is an idle time popup window now in TC.

Task should show due date of most urgent sub task
A task should automatically display the due date of the most urgent sub-task. That way you don't have to open the list of sub-tasks to check.

Button to hide/unhide active tasks
Useful if you want to create a list with completed task. There was already a filter with this option.
In the 0.76 version has been removed but I didn't find that a silly option.2 votesSee release 0.76.1.

Place a category dropdown on the task creation page
When creating a new task, I frequently forget to page over to the category screen to assign the category. There should be a category dropdown selection box on the task creation page to avoid this from happeneing. Its important enough to include on the main page. Another solution (or complementary) would be to automatically assign the task to the category that is selected for filter.
2 votesYour second suggestion already works.

Add a description to an effort
There is no possibility to add a description to an effort. When I am working on a task which, for example, comprises the implementation of a module, I would often like to add comments to efforts like "Implementation", "Testing", "Bugfixing" etc. Just a line.
2 votesThis is already possible. Double click the effort in the effort viewer to open the effort edit dialog. There you can enter a description. You may also want to make the description column visible in the effort viewer.

enable tracking effort on multiple tasks simultaneously/parallely
I am working on 2 projects and i'm currently focussing on 2 subtasks one from each project but for every change in focus on task, its too cumbersome to stop tracking effort and starting on the other. please allow to track more than one effort simultaneously. also i agree focussing on one task is better, but world is not so fair.
2 votesThis is already possible: start tracking task 1 normally and then select task 2 in the task viewer and using the context menu (right-click) use “New effort…” to create a new effort for task 2. Be sure not to fill in a stop time. Hit OK. Voila: tracking effort for two tasks at the same time.

Personal Kanban view
How about different view on the tasks? The category filter is already very good. But I want a view, where I can select my tasks in process. The rest is either done or backlog.
2 votesThis is already possible: open a new task viewer (View→New viewer→Tasks) and then hide completed and inactive tasks in that viewer.

shortcut to the start tracking effort
i could be nice to got a shortcut for the start tracking effort since the context menu of a task is very big. if it's possible at the same time you should do it for stop tracking.
2 votesUse cntrl-T to start tracking selected task.
There’s also cntrl-E to do the same without stopping already tracked efforts and opening the effort window.
The same command (cntrl-shift-T) works for stopping and restarting the last tracked task.
There are buttons and contextual menus and regular action menus for all these things.
Finally, you might want to vote for this:

Improve the export utility or the notes view
could be interesting to be able to export or print the description and the text of the notes.
May be with a view with the whole info of a task, including the text of the notes and the description.
Or may be using the notes view for that purpose.
2 votesThe description can be printed and exported. Just make the description column visible. NB: there’s a bug where long descriptions will not be printed/exported completely but abbreviated with “…”. This bug will be fixed in the next release of Task Coach.

sub-task property inheritance
I would like to have sub-task property inheritance from the parent task. properties such as appearance, category and dates should be inherited by default.
2 votesAll properties are already inherited. Use the total columns to see how it works.

View time worked across all tasks or subtasks per day/week.
I would like to be able to get a breakdown of the time I have worked on various tasks. And since I create a "root" task for each client, I could see how much time to bill :)
2 votesUse the total time spent column to see the total time spent on a root task.

take a effort as paid
I think, it's a good idea to make a effort as paid
2 votesIf you give the task an hourly fee, then adding effort to a task adds to the amount earned (revenue) for that task.
Cheers, Frank
